When you go to an interview, the aim of the interviewer is to find out whether your profile fits with the position the company is looking to fill. Questions about your education, weaknesses, strengths and expectations will lead to other questions which, believe it or not, could make you shine in an interview depending on how you answer them.
The EIO wants to ensure that your interview is a success. Below we have listed 10 common “trick questions”, so you can prepare them and not be caught by surprise at your next interview:
The question seems simple to answer, but what the interviewer really wants to know is if you are interested in working for the company or just in gaining experience in the sector, for example. Doing prior research on the company is key to providing a solid answer.
The aim of this question is for the interviewer to find out what your priorities are on a professional level: to gain more experience, to specialize in a sector, etc.
The only thing the interviewer is looking for with this question is to know how sought-after you as an employee. If you’re participating in another selection process and the interviewer is interested in your profile to fill the position, the process will likely move more quickly.
When asked this, no one will say they don’t know how they would handle stressful situations. However, if you don’t provide a convincing answer, the interviewer may doubt what you’re saying.
The objective of this question is to find out how you deal with interpersonal conflict on the job. If your boss or one of your co-workers says something you don’t like, do you confront them or try to avoid conflict?
This question helps the interviewer know more about your personality. But don’t make anything up since the interviewer can ask you to elaborate. For example, if you say that you like to read, the interviewer may ask what your favourite book is and you better have an answer.
Like the previous question, here the recruiter also wants to find out about your personality. Keep in mind the position you’re interviewing for. If, for example, the interviewer is looking for a creative person, you can’t describe yourself as a strict person.
Each job has certain requirements and this question allows the interviewer to find out whether you meet them. You need to prepare both your strengths and weaknesses. You can’t say that one of your strengths is that you feel comfortable working on team and then say that it is hard to concentrate when there are other people around you.
With this question the interviewer obviously wants to know whether you’re a stable person looking to improve your career or you simply go wherever the wind takes you.
In your response you should highlight your skills, abilities, knowledge, skills or achievements that make you the ideal candidate for the position. But be sure not to show off too much!
